Hello and a huge welcome to our blog!

If you’re reading this, you have probably already heard about Imperial College’s most exciting and rewarding society, that is of course, Project Nepal!

To kick off, here is a short introduction on what it’s all about.

Project Nepal started four years ago with the aim of making an impact on education in rural parts of Nepal. Our aim is to provide poverty-stricken orphans and children with sustainable education in order help reduce the educational disparity that exists in one of the world’s poorest countries. Project Nepal is supported by InterVol, a recognised charity in the UK (Charity Number: 1136099).

We feel very grateful to have access to our world class education. However education in Nepal is quite different. With 42% of its population living below the poverty line, out of every 100 children, 48 will be malnourished and underweight, 42 will be involved in child labour, 30 will never have been to school and 10 will die before their fifth birthday. By working with education, we hope to make a lasting impact by focusing on the route of the problem.

Since the inception of Project Nepal four years ago, we have successfully carried out three construction projects involving classrooms and a boarding house with our partners Maya Universe Academy, who are helping to change education in Nepal.

Your help is especially needed this year after the devastating earthquakes in 2015 which had left even more children homeless. We are visiting Nepal again in the summer of 2016 to start construction of a well-needed preschool at one of the schools. The building will provide shelter for children as well as a safe and suitable environment to teach children in. As we do every year, we will also work continuously with the teachers to improve the quality of education.

Project Nepal relies largely on private funding and all money raised goes directly towards funding only building materials; volunteers pay for their own flight and accommodation. To contribute to our cause, please visit https://mydonate.bt.com/fundraisers/projectnepal2016

Help us make the change we want to see in this world.

Thank you,

IC Project Nepal team
